To extract PDF pages is to keep only the sheets you care about and leave the rest behind. It is the right move when you want to share just the relevant part of a large file: pulling a single form out of a contract, isolating a certificate buried in a hundred-page scan, or sending only the useful appendix without disclosing the whole document.
To select the pages, list the numbers or ranges you want to keep. You can extract a page from PDF on its own, but you can also combine several choices in one pass, for example 2, 5-8 to grab page 2 and then the block of pages 5 through 8 at once. Check the real page numbering, which does not always match the numbers printed on the pages.
The operation never touches your source file: it stays intact, and the tool produces a new PDF holding only the pages you picked. You walk away with two documents and can repeat the process as often as you like without harming anything.
Depending on your goal, other tools may fit better. To cut a document into several separate files, use split.
