Booklet imposition reorders the pages of a PDF and places two of them side by side on each landscape sheet, so that once the sheet is printed double-sided and folded in half, the pagination reads in order. A folded booklet is built from four-page signatures, so the total page count must be a multiple of four. If your document is not, the tool automatically appends one to three blank pages at the end to complete the last signature and keep the pagination aligned — this is normal and expected.
To print, choose double-sided with flip on the short edge: this setting is what ensures the back aligns correctly with the front once folded. Before imposition, other tools prepare the file: reorder puts pages in the right sequence, merge joins several documents into one, and nup places multiple pages per sheet without any folding logic when you only want to save paper.
