Splitting per page produces one file for every single page. Splitting every N pages creates evenly sized chunks, handy for documents with a repeating structure.
Before you begin, confirm the real page numbering, which can differ from the printed numbers, and give your output files clear names so you can find them later. If a cut goes wrong, rebuild the whole document with merge and try again. To pull out only a few exact pages rather than blocks, extract-pages is a better fit, while split-even-odd separates odd and even pages, useful after duplex scanning.
